About Us

The Oconee County Amateur Radio Society (OCARS) primarily serves as a backup to the communication systems in and around Oconee County. We are organized as both a RACES and ARES club. In the event that the county looses communications due to damaged infrastructure, we would deploy to critical locations such as the county EOC, fire departments and hospitals to establish radio communications. OCARS has a close relationship and works along side the county Emergency Manager throughout the year.

Along with emergency communication, we exist to promote the hobby of Ham Radio through many different activities. From Skywarn to DX to the local 2 meter repeater, we are committed to growing our skill and teaching mew Hams the hobby.
